Sourcing has started before the end of construction, and over 20 employees have been already hired. They are employed in specially introduced additional full-time positions. For a while, the new personnel will be undergoing training at the first and second urea production units, after which they will be transferred to the new facility. The new facility launch will create 58 highly paid jobs in Togliatti.
In early September, the third urea production unit was connected to the plant's heating network. Now, steel structures and pipelines on racks are being installed at the construction site. Besides, a boiler house will be launched at the unit in the near future, so the current efforts of the builders are focused on this area. In particular, equipment is being installed and connected to pipelines in the boiler house. At the substation, pipelines and cables are also being laid, while fans are being installed at the water circulation system of the cooling tower’s water recycling area.
An important feature of the new unit construction is that it is being erected at the existing production site, and the project implementation requires reconfiguring all the plant systems. In particular, taking into account the needs of future production capacities, the urea warehouse has been modernised, and a new conveyor line is being built – it will stretch from the prilling tower of the new unit to the urea warehouse, and then from the warehouse to the railway product loading yard. At the moment, foundations for the new transport system are ready, and builders are erecting steel structures and conducting intermediate assembly of conveyor lines. Besides, the new Unit project provides for urea shipping bypassing the warehouse – directly to mineral hoppers. Earlier, Togliattiazot has increased its rolling stock up to more than 1800 units by purchasing modern hoppers with increased payload capacity from the United Railcar Company.
Togliattiazot started the construction of Urea Production Unit No. 3 in October 2018 at the production site in Togliatti. The design capacity of the Unit will be 2200 tpy of urea, which will allow to increase the plant’s existing urea production capacity by over 70%.
The design was developed in partnership with Casale S.A. The purification ratio of the Unit’s emissions will reach 93%. The process line is designed in such a way that the volume of carbon dioxide emissions from TOAZ (which are the production waste of several ammonia units) into the atmosphere will be significantly reduced after the new Unit commissioning. Effluents generated by the Unit will undergo eight stages of treatment, while certain waste types will be handed over to specialized organizations for disposal, neutralisation, or burial.
