First new shipment of TSP from OCP arrives in US

OCP North America, a subsidiary of OCP Group, has announced that a vessel carrying approximately 54 000 t of triple super phosphate (TSP) fertilizer from Morocco has arrived at the Port of New Orleans, US.
From there, the product will be distributed to American farmers, supporting fertilizer availability ahead of the fall application season.
The shipment follows the Trump Administration’s decision to grant temporary relief from countervailing duties (CVD) on Moroccan phosphate fertilizer imports, a step that helps restore American farmers’ access to an additional source of phosphate fertilizer supply after years of constrained availability.
Following the administration’s 29 June announcement of temporary relief, OCP engaged with the Department of Commerce and relevant US authorities to obtain clarity on the applicable implementation requirements and ensure compliance before shipments began.
With the relevant guidance finalised, and customer demand assured, shipments can proceed during the temporary suspension of CVD tariffs on phosphate fertilizers from Morocco.
“This shipment reflects our commitment to supply the US market,” said Kevin Kimm, CEO of OCP North America. “The temporary relief has enabled Moroccan phosphate fertilizer to return to the US market. We are now focused on helping supplement available supply and ensuring American farmers have access to the fertilizer they need, when they need it.”
TSP plays a key role in OCP’s approach to customised plant nutrition. By providing phosphorus separately from other nutrients, TSP gives farmers greater flexibility to tailor nutrient applications to the specific needs of their crops and soils. This supports more precise nutrient management in line with the 4R principles of applying the right nutrient source, at the right rate, at the right time and in the right place.
Over five years of restricted access to Moroccan phosphate fertilizers have left US farmers exposed to a shrinking pool of suppliers. Meanwhile, US domestic phosphate mining has declined by more than 50% since 1995. Current market conditions have led many farmers to defer fertilizer application decisions this season.
The arrival of this shipment also reflects OCP’s ability to mobilise its supply chain to respond to market needs and support reliable access to phosphate-based fertilizer solutions, tailored to local agronomic needs. OCP has always believed in working closely with farmers, customers and industry partners to support the resilience of US agriculture. While the temporary suspension of tariffs permits OCP to offer temporary relief to US farmers, greater long-term certainty would support continued planning and investment in OCP North America’s US-facing capabilities and help ensure adequate fertilizer supply for American farmers over time.
