Beyondie SOP project enters final phases of commissioning

Kalium Lakes has said that its Beyondie sulfate of potash (SOP) project has entered the final phases of commissioning.

The construction of the Standard Grade SOP (SSOP) plant is substantially complete, other than punch list items that are not critical to progressing commissioning. Water commissioning, the product storage shed and product materials handling infrastructure are near completion. The commencement of production ramp-up remains on track for October 2021. Construction activities and commissioning activities remain within the CAPEX budget.

“The Project is coming together as planned, with the excitement growing as we sequentially work through the commissioning process. Excluding the compaction plant, which is not required for first production of Standard Grade SOP, the Project is now 98 per cent complete and ready for imminent start up. Construction activities are beginning to wind down, making way for the commissioning and operations teams to complete the final steps before Kalium Lakes can seize the opportunity to become Australia’s first SOP producer!” said Rudolph van Niekerk, CEO.

The first product delivered by the Beyondie SOP project will be SSOP, which will generate all of the forecast sales for the final quarter of 2021.

Construction works for the SSOP component of the plant, currently 98.1% complete, are now winding down to only focus on closing out punch-list items that will not prevent the completion of water commissioning.

Those final elements are being closed out in preparation for the EBTEC team to conduct final inspections, prior to signing off on the introduction of salt into the wet processing circuits.

Salt commissioning for the front end of the plant is already underway in readiness for the salt introduction process.

As the construction activities on the SSOP plant wind down, the construction team has moved to focus on the compaction plant, which overall is 76% complete and scheduled to be finished in October 2021.

The commissioning of that plant, which produces Granular SOP (GSOP), is scheduled to commence as soon as there is sufficient additional SSOP available as feed stock. GSOP sales are forecast to commence in the first quarter of the 2022 calendar year.
