Casale has announced a significant milestone as its subsidiary, Casale Project a.s., has successfully secured a turn-key contract with BorsodChem MCHZ, s.r.o., based in the Czech Republic, for the construction of a cutting-edge nitric acid plant.

This strategic collaboration marks the continuation of a long-standing venture between Casale and Borsodchem.

The contract involves the design, engineering, procurement, and construction of a 450 million tpd of weak nitric acid (WNA) plant, showcasing Casale’s knowledge of nitric acid process as well as the company’s expertise in providing turnkey solutions. The project aims to meet the growing demand for aniline production contributing to the expansion and sustainability of BorsodChem's operations.

A distinctive feature of the project is its ability to generate electrical energy without the use of fuels. Instead, it harnesses surplus steam produced during the nitric acid production process through a carefully optimised approach. This not only enhances the overall energy efficiency of the entire site but also underscores our commitment to sustainable practices and resource optimisation.

Key highlights of the project include:
  • Comprehensive turnkey solution: Casale and Casale Project will oversee the entire project lifecycle, from conceptualisation and design to procurement, construction, and commissioning, ensuring a seamless and efficient execution.
  • Cutting-edge technology: The nitric acid plant will incorporate the latest Casale’s dual-pressure technology, emphasising efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability. Casale Project is committed to delivering a solution that aligns with local and global standards and regulations.
  • Strategic partnership: The collaboration between Casale and Borsodchem signifies a strong partnership built on shared values and a mutual commitment to excellence. Both companies bring their respective strengths to the table, fostering innovation and success.
  • Local impact: The project will have a positive impact on the local economy by creating job opportunities and supporting the growth of the chemical industry in the Czech Republic. The project is subsidised through the European Commission's Modernidation Funds programme, an initiative led by the European Union, aiming to assist 10 member states in achieving their 2030 energy targets by facilitating the modernisation of energy systems and enhancing energy efficiency.
  • Fast track implementation: Emphasising a commitment to efficiency, this project is set on a challenging timeline, with swift execution being a focal point. The goal is to meet ambitious deadlines, ensuring that the project exceeds expectations in terms of time-to-market and operational readiness. Mr. Federico Zardi, CEO of Casale, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating: "We are honoured to be chosen again by Borsodchem for this significant project. Casale is dedicated to delivering world-class solutions, and we look forward to contributing to the success and growth of Borsodchem through our turnkey approach."
