Taiwan’s Agriculture Minister, Lin Tsung-hsien, has visited Taiwanese-operated companies and retailers in Kuala Lumpur that have been selling Taiwan-produced agricultural products, in an effort to expand the market share of the halal market and to promote Taiwan-produced fertilizer, seeds and agricultural machines in Malaysia.

During the second leg of his two-day trip to Malaysia, Lin said that the transfer of technology in agriculture from institutes of research and development run by the Council of Agriculture to local companies in Malaysia could help both Taiwan’s and Malaysia’s agricultural development.

The Agriculture Minister has visited a number of local companies, including All Cosmos Bio-Tech Holding Corp., a Malaysia-based fertilizer manufacturer and DaChan Great Wall Group’s (a Taiwanese agriculture and food conglomerate) fertilizer manufacturer in Malaysia. These visits came as part of the government’s efforts to promote the New Southbound Policy launched by the Taiwanese government, and which focuses on strengthening connections with its neighbours in both south and southeast Asia.

Lin also attended a discussion meeting with Taiwanese business executives to understand their requirements, as well as to seek further cooperation with Malaysian businesses.

Lin noted that, through the principle of mutual benefit and in collaboration with new southbound countries, Taiwan is hoping to promote the regional development of agriculture by improving bilateral cooperation in information, technology and talents to ensure sustainable agriculture, as well as to increase farmers’ incomes in these regions.
