The plant will be built in Jiujiang, Jiangxi, China, and follows a small revamp project between the parties in 2016. According to Stamicarbon, the scope of the project comprises the license, the process design package, the delivery of proprietary high pressure equipment in Safurex® and associated services for both the urea melt plant and the finishing by prilling. The plant is based on the company’s LAUNCH MELTTM ultra-low energy design with a pool reactor. Plant start-up is scheduled for the end of 2020.
Many urea processes are based on an ‘N = 2’ heat integration design, where the heat supplied to the plant is used twice. In the ultra-low energy design, the process is based on an ‘N = 3’ design, in which the heat is used three times. This results in a reduction of steam consumption of approximately 40%. The design is suitable for both new plants and as a revamp tool for CO2 stripping and conventional urea plants.
