World Fertilizer,
Casale has signed a contract with Neptun Glomfjord Green Ammonia AS (NGGA) for the engineering and supply of a 100 tpd modular green ammonia plant in Glomfjord, Norway, marking an important step in the deployment of Casale's solutions for small scale renewable ammonia production.
NGGA is a Norwegian project company developing green ammonia production at Glomfjord Industrial Park, leveraging the region's renewable power resources and established industrial infrastructure, while responding to the local demand for ammonia.
The project will deploy Casale's proprietary SMART-N™ technology and will be delivered under an Engineering, Procurement and Fabrication (EPF) model. The plant will be engineered and supplied as a modularised facility, combining Casale's ammonia technology expertise with a design approach tailored to the requirements of small scale renewable ammonia production.
Optimised modular design for efficient project execution
The modular concept has been specifically engineered to optimise the trade-off between modularisation costs at the fabrication yard and assembly and installation costs at the Norwegian site. The resulting level of off-site fabrication reduces the volume and complexity of site activities while supporting overall project cost efficiency.
Designed for renewable ammonia production
A key feature of the plant is its high operating flexibility. The facility is designed to operate across a wide range, from 10% - 100% of its nominal capacity. Following a staged strategy for hydrogen production implementation, the synthesis section shall operate g at approximately 50% load for a period after start-up.
This flexibility is particularly relevant for renewable ammonia production, where operating conditions need to accommodate the price variability of renewable energy and renewable hydrogen.
Casale's SMART-N™ technology has been specifically developed for small scale ammonia production and is suitable to applications based on renewable hydrogen. Combining a compact plant configuration with a wide operating range, the technology enables reliable and flexible ammonia production within an affordable levelised cost of ammonia (LCOA).
Supporting a lower-carbon nitrogen value chain
The green ammonia produced in Glomfjord will subsequently be processed by third parties into nitric acid, ANS and fertilizers, extending the project's contribution beyond ammonia production and supporting the development of a lower-carbon nitrogen value chain.
The agreement with NGGA further strengthens Casale's presence in the renewable ammonia market and demonstrates how advanced ammonia technology, modular plant design and operational flexibility can be combined to address the specific requirements of emerging green ammonia projects.
Through solutions such as SMART-N™, Casale intends to expand its technology portfolio to support different project scales and configurations, providing tailored pathways for the transition towards more sustainable nitrogen production.
