The Fertilizer Institute (TFI) has praised the Soil Health Institute for developing a comprehensive plan to protect and enhance the nation’s soil resources. ‘Enriching Soil, Enhancing Life, an Action Plan for Soil Health’ provides a roadmap for safeguarding and enhancing the vitality and productivity of soil.

“We enthusiastically support this new plan, and its recognition that the 4Rs (nutrient source, rate, time and place) play an integral role in soil health,” said TFI President, Chris Jahn. “Farmers are using fertilizer with historic efficiency and safeguarding soil health is essential to maintaining this upward trajectory. We need science that addresses information gap and practical advice on field practices that preserve and improve this irreplaceable resource.”

Farmers, ranchers, scientists, agricultural industry representatives, government agency leaders, and non-governmental organisations contributed to the plan, which will have science, measurement, education, and policy aspects.

“No matter what crop or region of the country, nutrient stewardship using the 4R’s contributes to healthy agricultural soils,” said Jahn. “We look forward to working with the Soil Health Institute to achieve our shared goals.”
