According to the Business Standard, coal, power and oil PSUs are to invest in four Indian fertilizer plants in order to revive them by 2020-21. It is expected that this revival will add approximately 7.5 million t of capacity.
"India's annual requirement of urea is 31-32 million t. In the fiscal year that ended on March 31 (2016-17), domestic production was 24.5 million t and the rest was imported," said Fertiliser Minister Ananth Kumar.
The country aims to be self sufficient in urea by 2021.
