Automated handling system installed at Krishnapatnam Port

Krishnapatnam Port, India, has installed an automated fertilizer handling system (AFHS), which will be capable of handling end-to-end fertilizer cargo from vessel discharge to road/rail evacuation.
This latest installation will expand the port’s handling capacity to 3 million tpy, will reduce handling time to 6 – 8 hours.
"The Indian market typically characterised by high logistics costs makes imports and exports very expensive. New age ports such as Krishnapatnam, through automation and global technologies, play very crucial role in efficient turnaround and cost reduction," said Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog.
C. Sasidhar, Managing Director, Krishnapatnam Port Co. Ltd, detailed India’s large fertilizer cargo demand - the country imports approximately 14 - 18 million tpy of fertilizer cargo.
“Considering benefits such as saving of time and cost along with customisable solutions, Krishnapatnam is all poised to become the most preferred among shipping companies and importers for fertilizer shipments,” added Sasidhar.
