ORNX signs deal for Moroccan ammonia project

The agreement was signed in Rabat, with ORNX represented by its managing directors, Peter A. Gish and Pablo Pulpeiro, during a ceremony chaired by the Head of the Government of Morocco, in the presence of the CEO of MASEN Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN) and the Deputy Chief of Mission of the US Embassy to Morocco.

The signature marked an important milestone and reflected the broader momentum driven by the strategic vision of HM King Mohammed VI to position Morocco as a global leader in the hydrogen and ammonia sectors, through the Green Hydrogen Moroccan Offer.

Since its creation in 2022, ORNX has operated with the conviction that Morocco offers a unique framework for developing a globally competitive hydrogen industry. ORNX's selection as one of the developers retained by the Steering Committee of the ‘Offre Maroc’ recognises this work and supports the next stages of project development.

Located in Laâyoune, the ORNX project aims to produce 100 000 tpy low-cost hydrogen which will be converted into approximately 560 000 tpy of low-cost ammonia. ORNX will continue to work closely with MASEN and Moroccan authorities and stakeholders to advance this large scale strategic project. The ammonia can be used as a source for further processing into solid and liquid fertilizer products.
