North Ammonia pause development of Eydehavn Green Ammonia

North Ammonia has decided to put further work on the plan for Eydehavn Green Ammonia in Arendal, Norway on hold due to a lack of political support.

Eydehavn, the municipal port controlled by Arendal, is strategically positioned in the Skaggerak Ocean in Northern Europe. The production plant will be located near the quay side and will have a production capacity of up to 150 000 tpy of green ammonia. With this capacity, annual greenhouse gas emissions may be reduced with up to 300 000 t/CO2eq.

Large industrial projects such as this require significant resources and depend on solid local partnerships and broad political support to succeed.

"It is a shame that the plans for Eydehavn do not have the necessary political support, but we will capitalise on the work done in Arendal when we develop other locations in partnership," stated General Manager Mikkel Tørud.

North Ammonia is a long-term player with solid owners and the company has been working on the development of factories for the production of green fuel along the coast of Norway since 2021.

Norway is well placed to produce competitive green fuels based on a strong maritime cluster and good access to competitive renewable energy.
