Metals and Minerals Trading Corporation of India (MMCT) has excluded the use of Iranian urea from its tender due to its status as a sanctioned country.
Argus states "Iran is a major supplier of urea to India. Its January-June imports this year totalled 3.4 million t of urea, of which 1.15 million t came from Iran, according to GTIS. Last year's total imports of 5.9 million t saw India buy 1.6 million t from Iran."
Shipment is required up until the 19th November.
Argus continues "India does not set a specific tonnage target for its urea tenders, but stocks have fallen to about 400 000 t. Argus estimates that 2 million t is needed for shipment up to mid-January."
