The Hungarian nitrogen fertilizer producer Nitrogénmuvek has temporarily halted ammonia production as a result of high natural gas prices.
In a statement, the company said that the war in Ukraine had created an extraordinary situation and increased the risk to energy supply security in Europe. It added that government decisions relating to grain export restrictions had further increased market risks.
Nitrogénmuvek has said it will aim to reduce the region's dependence on fertilizer imports.
