K+S has successfully completed the purchase of the activities of Chinese fertilizer producer Huludao Magpower Fertilizers Co. Ltd. With this production site in China, access to the South-East Asian growth markets will be improved.
Magpower is one of the largest Chinese producers of synthetic mangesium sulfate (SMS), which is used as a fertilizer for oil palms, soybeans and sugar cane. The products produced in Huludao will complement the K+S product range through the addition of highly effective, water soluble magnesium sulfate. Amongst others this kind of magnesium sulfate has a positive effect on root development, water absorption, yields and plant quality parameters.
The site currently has a capacity of 90 000 t which can be doubled to 180 000 t in the foreseeable future.
K+S is continuing to consistently implement the management agenda. Magpower and the investment in Saudi Arabian fertilizer producer Al-Biariq are measures designed to expand the specialty business in the Potash and Magnesium Products business unit.
