FertiStream has announced that they have signed an agreement to purchase a 100% share in Nutrisource PTE, including a newly built fertilizer blending facility in Togo with a capacity of up to 200 000 tpy.
This acquisition further strengthens FertiStream’s regional footprint in emerging fertilizer markets and underlines its commitment to African agriculture.
“Our mission is to connect fertilizer producers and buyers worldwide, and with this acquisition, we go even further. Not only will we be able to better contribute to African agriculture by streamlining access to high-quality fertilizer products across nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium segments, but we will also provide locally produced NPK blends tailored to the specific needs of regional crops and soils”, commented Jacques Lubbe, the owner and the CEO of FertiStream Holding.
The plant is designed by EMT, a Dutch company specialized in blending, bagging, and transport equipment, and the production process is fully mechanised and automated, allowing to produce fertilizer blends, including NPKs with high phosphate content, which are in demand in the region. With 60 000 t of storage for raw materials, 30 000 t of storage for finished goods, and a quality control laboratory, the plant will provide the region with a stable local supply of high-quality fertilizers.
The facility is located 22 km north of the port of Lome, a deep-water port in the West Africa region that can accommodate Supramax vessels, allowing for streamlined fertilizer supply across all nutrient groups to Togo and neighboring countries, including Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger, Benin, and Mali.
“FertiStream is well-connected to strong fertilizer sourcing opportunities worldwide and has the necessary knowledge, experience, skills, and commitment to bring value and thrive in Africa. I am confident that the Togo project is in capable hands and will greatly contribute to the growth of the agricultural market in the region”, commented Murari Mohan Rakshit, the founder of Nutrisource.
Imane Belrhiti, Head of Business Development Africa & Middle East at FertiStream, will assume the role of the Chairman of the Board. Imane is a seasoned and well-respected fertilizer professional with over 14 years of relevant experience, including previous VP level roles at OCP. “I have dedicated over a decade of my professional life to the African fertilizer market, and it remains my passion. I am firmly convinced that the continent's true agricultural potential is amazing and needs the right commitment and support to unfold. This acquisition is certainly a step in the right direction”, commented Imane Belrhiti, Head of Business Development Africa & Middle East.
